Popular Miis on Wii

In case you’ve had bad luck and have yet to experience a Wii, part of the fun with this console (aside from its unique controllers) is the creation of the Mii characters. It has a fun, intuitive interface that can be experienced here.

Introducing MiiPlaza.net, a networking site to share your Mii creations and find friends. Explore around and find your favorite Miis, much like what this site has done. Here are some of my favorites:

Admiral Ackbar Mii

Admiral Ackbar Mii
“It’s a trap!”

Jar Jar Mii

Jar Jar Mii
I have NO idea what parts are used for what….and I’ll leave it at that.

Zoidberg Mii

Here’s a little video on how to make a Zoidberg Mii. Very clever!

Michael Jackson Mii

Michael Jackson Mii
It just….looks like him. Odd, they even have Michael Jackson’s nose type for the Mii? Creepy!

So that’s it, go crazy and try creating an army of cartoon Miis on your Wii!

Sega Genesis Game Manuals

Last weekend I went home and my mom handed me a plastic bag full of booklets, the Sega Genesis game manuals I had separated from the huge, space-hogging game containers. Where is my Genesis now? I don’t know…where are the game cartridges? I have no idea.

Sega Genesis Game Manuals
From left to right, top to bottom: Ghouls and Ghosts, Sonic the Hedgehog, Dynamite Duke, Verytex, Super Hydlide, Hellfire, Gavares, Thunder Force III, Tommy Lasorda Baseball, Strider, Street Smart, Super Masters, Elemental Master, DJ Boy, and Golden Axe.

What a cool surprise and instant trip down memory lane! Seeing these booklets, I remembered every game, every frustration I had, every satisfaction for each game I triumphantly finished. Here are some shots of my manuals.

Disclaimer: Before you try to date me/age me based on these games, they were hand-me-downs from my uncles. I had a Japanese Genesis that had no problems playing American cartridges. I will point out the American game manuals are boring black/white but the Japanese manuals are colorful and detailed/cute.

New Pibbit Theme

Whew! So it took me about 2 months to come up with the design, break it down, implement it, do the art for it (while working, having a social life, and still gaming!). I wanted to record all my trials and tribulations during the struggle, but it got very tedious and would’ve prolonged process, so I scrapped it. Instead, I’ll give you the quick summary.

Quadruple Blue Theme

Quadruple-Blue Theme

So Quadruple Blue was my theme in the beginning. Can you tell my favorite color is blue?

However…I felt the calendar on the sidebar was unnecessary, and having three columns made the content-column unnecessarily smooshed and skinny. If I uploaded an image that was just a little bit wide, it broke the theme. In fact, that’s what happened, which is what caused me to want my own theme.

And after a while, I realized I didn’t like blue…THAT much.

Difficulties of Wordpress and Windows Servers

In a way, it’s ironic. My first web site started off on a Linux server, but when I wanted to use ASP for my site, I had to transfer to a Windows Server. About 4 years have gone by since, and I’d recently installed Wordpress, but I ran into many difficulties:

Permalinks

A permalink is the URL leading to a single blog post. It can look ugly like

http://www.pibbit.com/?p=17

but I want it to look descriptive like

http://www.pibbit.com/2007/07/27/wii-gamer-girl-drawing/

The Permalink document on Wordpress’s site offered excellent information in making this happen, specifically using Permalinks without mod_rewrite because I have Windows hosting. By creating a php.ini file at the root with 2 lines of code:

cgi.fix_pathinfo = 1
cgi.force_redirect = 0

I am at least allowed to use the “almost pretty” form of Permalinks (note the inserted “index.php”):
