Live Action Video Game Videos

Here’s an entertaining collection of videos about video games. I also tried to do some extra research to find the creator of the videos, but it’s proven to be difficult. I constantly find myself digging up these films over and over again to share with people, so I might as well compile a list here. These are all live action.

Ultimate Utopia XXIII by Adarahs

A clever parody of RPGs with emphasis on the Final Fantasy series. With nostalgic music from several RPGs, the action is right on with the timing and effects. The still camera and transitions are dead on! They even have summons!

Game Over by PES

Ah, a recreation of the retro games: Centipede, Frogger, Asteroids, Space Invaders, and Pacman. They used stop motion animation with food and household items in a very clever way.

Pacman by UM Patriots

I wish these guys played pranks at my college when I was around. Here they briefly disrupt a library and computer lab with their Pacman antics.

Also, by the same guys: Superman

Paper Boy by Mega64

In the future, Dr. Poque, a videogame programmer and mad scientist, creates the console Mega64 which downloads old videogames into users’ brains, making them embarrassingly real. Here it shows a group of “players” that were actually harrassing a newpaper delivery man. This concept is so cute! I highly recommend visiting their site for more funny videos.

Also by them: Prince of Persia Rewind

I happened to find this while doing research for this post - it is buried somewhere on their site but somewhat difficult to find. In Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, when you die, you are allowed to rewind the course of time prior to point so that you may change your outcome. I never played the game, but knowing about the time reversal functionality, this film was hilarious to me. =)

Counter Struck High Definition

This is especially hilarious for those of you who’ve played Counter Strike and experienced similar frustrations of lag and trying to get the hostages to follow you. The camera angles for first-person view, as well as the sounds, are done very well.

Nintendo Acapella Medley

Ok fine, this video is more an emphasis on music than being live action. The group enacts and sings songs from Mario, Dr. Mario, Tetris, Mortal Kombat, and Zelda.

Good stuff. The Pac-Man and Superman videos were awesome! Sorta sad in the Final Fantasy Parody that the token female character sucks so much. Guess she was underleveled for that fight. =)

Also well written reviews for other stuff, I ran into your site looking for stuff about Overlord. Trying to figure out if I’m willing to play the game twice now to see both zero corruption and full corruption.

Thank you! Also I haven’t had much experience with older FF games but I hear the white mage has weak offense and is mainly for healing. She probably represents the weak white mage (that delivers a killing blow!)

As for Overlord, I think it depends on how sick you are of that game. =) If you play it and say to yourself “Agh, I don’t want to do this again!” then it’s a sign to wait a couple years and revisit.

That’s a good read on the white mage, except that she DOES cast a heal and it only gives people back 5 hp. Maybe she’s got a lot of attack magic that the player never casts. Then again, it’s a video, so I guess it barely matters. =)

Which of the FF games have you played through? I see FF7 on your profile page. I really liked (in order) FF6, FF7, FF12, FF4, and FF9. There’s another pretty awesome parody video called “Final Fantasy A+” (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/164193) that also captures the feel of the FF series in a school environment.

Hahaha! You got a point - weak healing. I guess she is being power leveled!

FF7 was the first one I’ve ever played. Then 8, 9, and 10. I like 7, 8, and 10. 9…I couldn’t get into probably because they reintroduced classes at that point (what? I can’t heal with just ANYbody?)

Ah yah, I remember FFA+ from many years ago. Thanks for sharing!

LOL…that was great! About time you updated your site, but this one’s a great topic =) I say the FF one is the best, with a close second to Counter Strike. My favorites, in order, are FF4, FF7, FF6, FF9, FF12…though I’m borrowing your FFX right now…gonna play right now as a matter of fact! The only ones I’ve played all the way through were FF4 and FF7 though…I just got bored of the others before I finished them! I have a real problem with attention span.

Ok, let’s see how you like Blitz Ball (hate that game! Never did get Wakka’s other limits…)

Lithel

Guess I’m used to the old school FF games where everyone had a class. I had a really hard time with FF8’s magic system and FF10’s voice acting. I really did like Blitzball though.

What made you decide to post these live action versions of video games anyway? Just something that came to mind someday?

Lithel

Ha, overlapping posts practically.

Blitzball was easy IF you got the Jecht Shot from the first game. Otherwise it was pretty painful. I got it, so I had fun in there. What I had trouble with was just playing the game. I couldn’t stand the voice acting and I pretty much had to force myself to play the last couple hours of the game. I didn’t do any sidequest stuff or pick up any of the extra summons.

At least FFX looked pretty. =)
