As I stated in my Patapon Review, I love the game! I wanted to incorporate the cute guys into video game cookies somehow. So last Christmas I was at Sur La Table, sifting through their piles and piles of cookie cutters for the gingerbread boy cutter (of course, one week before Christmas and they are all out) when I found these cutters:

From left to right, the shapes are balloon, heart (of course!), and birdhouse. And my imagination takes off running! Can you kind of imagine creating a Patapon body from these shapes? Here’s a reminder of what Patapons look like:

Ok so I’ll walk you through it step by step. First, I figured their black body and eye could be created with gingerbread cookie dough! Then the white part of their eyeball would be created from the sugar cookie recipe from my Pixel Cookies post.
By the way, I’ll ruin the ending to this cookie experiment - the cookies failed because the gingerbread cookie part expanded and they ended up looking like huge mutated blobs. =( So I will not be posting that recipe here because it won’t work for these types of cookies. Also, I figured out the body, but could not come up with a creative way to create their legs and weapons, so if anybody has an idea on how to do so, I would really love to know! I thought of using pretzel sticks (naw!) or melted chocolate squeezed from a tube (then you freeze it so it becomes solid) but making that would be a pain, and handling the cookie without breaking the legs at that point would be an even BIGGER pain. So, no legs for this iteration.
First of all, the balloon cutter would be used to create the gingerbread body, so not much else needs to be done for that portion. For the iris of the eyeball, I would use the small round circle that came with the birdhouse cutter. I tried looking for a small circle cutter but ended up settling for this.
For the white part of the eyeball (it is called the sclera, see I know how to Google!) I would use the heart to create a medium-sized circle. How? By doing this:

Of course, I tried looking for a medium circle cutter but couldn’t find one that would fit inside the balloon, and since I didn’t have a heart cutter anyways, I decided to be creative:

Looks kinda like cubism art huh? It’s all…shapely and stuff. Reminds me of Picasso’s paintings.
Then, I placed the sclera onto the balloon and the iris onto the sclera and laid them all across the cookie sheets and baked them like so:

Hahaha! Check out the gingerbread lady on the right, we gave her boobs! Well she turned out to be a real hottie after baking because the gingerbread dough expanded and she looked natural. Unfortunately, my Patapon cookies became unnatural and failed, as I mentioned:

Ah well, I’ll try again in the future. Hopefully, my mistakes made this post informational. Hopefully you’ll find circle cutters in sizes you want! Maybe they won’t look good as cookies but would look better in some other form, like jello. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear it!
